Counterfeit Silver 1984 Engelhard Prospector "Big E" Fake Silver Bullion 29 grams

I compared the Engelhard prospector to many other different rounds and bars. Notice how the weight of everything is in the mid 31's. Then when I weigh the 1984 Englehard Prospector, it weighs in at a low 28.9g. Engelhard followed strict guidelines when minting bullion. For any of their 1 ounce bars or rounds to weighr 2.2 grams below a troy ounce, its time to get suspicious. In fact, I'd be suspicious if I had an Engelhard under 31 grams. Looking at the prospector without anything to compare it to, it looked like a normal size 1oz round. But when compared side by side to other rounds, the thickness of the prospector was as thick, or even just slightly thicker than my other rounds and the diameter was noticeably larger than just about all of them when side by side.....but yet the weight was still more than 2.3 grams less than all that I weighed. Even the increased diameter and thickness couldnt bring the weigh up to 31.1g. For them to get another 2.1 grams, the round would've been noticeably different in size. So thats probably why the counterfeiters went with a couple grams lighter and slightely bigger than a regular round. Its hard to hear the different in sound, but I couln't do a good test while holding the camera, but the sound is NOTICEABLY different. These 1984 Engelhard Prospector Big "E" rounds were purchased from Ebay recently. Be careful who you purchase your PM's from!! |
